Rose Marie Opdyke

Rose Marie Opdyke (nee Schumacher) of Doylestown Borough passed away suddenly at Doylestown Hospital on May 29, 2021. She was 94, soon to be 95 on July 2nd. Loving wife of the late Walter M. Opdyke, who passed away July 6, 1996.

Born in Abington, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Rosa (Grau) Schumacher. Having been raised in the community of Deep Run (Bedminster Township), Rose Marie was a farmer’s daughter.

She attended Doylestown High School and Wilfred Beauty Academy in Philadelphia. Rose Marie knew she wanted to be a beautician at an early age. Her first job was at Kurt’s Hair Dressing on East State Street in Doylestown. While working there, she met the love of her life, Walter, who worked across the street at Doylestown Market, and was married for 49 years until his passing. Later, she had her own beauty shop for over 60 years, retiring at 85!

Rose Marie was a 70+ year member of Salem United Church of Christ. She was also a member of Doylestown Nature Club. She truly loved her house and her gardens.

Rose Marie is survived by her daughters: Lois Opdyke and Beverly (Thomas) Altmeier and her son: Robert Opdyke. Of course, anyone who knew Rose Marie, knew the love she had for her Shih Tzu, Magic.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was also predeceased by her brothers: Robert, William and Henry Schumacher.

Service and interment will be private.
