Nancy W. Yerkes

June 21, 2021

Nancy Worthington Yerkes, of Furlong, died Monday June 21, 2021 at home with her husband and family by her side.  She was 90 years old and the wife of William H. Yerkes III.

Born in Mozart, she was the daughter of the late Addis C. and Myrl Michener Worthington.

Nancy was born on the family’s farm on Dark Hollow Road  and attended the one-room schoolhouse in Mozart through 8th grade.  She then moved on to Buckingham High School where she excelled in academics and athletics.  Nancy graduated from Penn State in 1952 with a teaching certificate in Health and Physical Education.  While there she was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority, forming lifelong friendships with the Magnificent 8.

Nancy and Bill had known each other since childhood with their parents being friends and dated through high school and college, marrying in 1953.  Nancy taught at Sell-Perk High School until stopping to raise their four children on their Furlong farm.

Flower gardening, horses, farm life and a big active family led to busy, joyful days.  When the family opened None Such Farm Market, she added another job title to her list by helping manage it.   Nancy could do anything from driving the corn-picking tractor at night, to refereeing a basketball game, to riding her horse.

Nancy and Bill enjoyed wonderful times with family and friends.   In addition to family trips to Bobst Mountain, fun times with her Bridge Club buddies, the Tennis Gang and the Magnificent Eight were all important parts of her life.   Nancy had so many friends because she was a sweet, kind and generous woman.

In addition to her husband, Nancy is survived by her loving children: son, William H. IV (Kim) and daughters, Bonnie (Rich) and Leanne (Joseph).  She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, as well as her beloved brother: William (Barb) of Arizona.

Nancy was preceded in death by her son, Mark and her infant great-granddaughter, Evangeline.

Nancy was a devoted Christian and is certainly joyfully reunited with Mark and Evangeline, her best friend Jane Smith, her wonderful parents and so many others.
