Gustav Fred Petry, Jr., of Doylestown, PA, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2023. He was 89 years old.
Born in Germantown, Philadelphia, Fred was the son of the late Gustav and Gertrude Petry and the brother of Rev. William Petry of Ambler and the late Doris Hardy.
He was the devoted husband of Elizabeth Jane Petry, his high school sweetheart, who predeceased him in 2017.
He was a proud Eagle Scout, with induction in the Order of the Arrow in 1950. He graduated from Doylestown High School in 1952. Fred served in the United States Army in Korea with the 101st Airborne from 1955 until 1957. In 1978 he became a 32nd Degree Mason, and served as Worshipful Master of Doylestown Lodge #245 in 1983 and 1984.
Fred loved competitive sports and played football, baseball, track and softball. He also enjoyed swimming, hunting and skating. He worked for Sandy Ridge Greenhouses and Penn Engineering & Mfg. Corp., retiring in 2001.
Fred is survived by his daughter, Lynn Marie Petry of Kamuela, HI, his son, Scott Douglas Petry and wife, Catherine Chayko of Danville, PA, and his son, Gustav Michael Petry, and wife, Laurie Spiro of Miami FL, as well as his granddaughter, Emerson Catherine Petry.
Services and interment are being held at the convenience of the family.
