Constance L. Long

April 14, 2022

Constance L. Long (Thompson) of Doylestown, died on April 14, 2022. She was 84 and the beloved wife of Clayton H. Long, having recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary.

Born in Furlong, PA, she was the daughter of the late Rita M. Adams and Thomas J. Thompson.

Connie graduated from Central Bucks High School in 1955. She was head majorette and proudly twirled fire batons at halftime for the Bucks. She went on to nursing school and became a licensed practical nurse at Doylestown Hospital. Connie later worked for the Bucks County Recorder of Deeds until her retirement. After retirement, she returned to Doylestown Hospital in a volunteer role. She worked in the hospital nursery where she doted over newborn infants.

Connie dedicated many years of service to her community including: O.P. James Ambulance, secretary and coordinator for the Doylestown Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and marching unit, respectively.

Connie was a member of Salem United Church of Christ in Doylestown. She was a dedicated choir member and was known for her lovely alto voice. Many will remember Connie’s pea soup that was served at Salem’s annual Advent Concert luncheons. She had quite a following and many rushed downstairs to ensure their serving. Connie also proudly served as president of the Central Bucks East Band Parent’s Association.

Connie and Clayt enjoyed many years in the Pocono Mountains. Lifelong friends were made in Pine Flats and Wild Acres. Many ‘happy hours’ were spent with them. They also traveled much of the United States, including their favorites, Florida, New England, the Pacific Northwest, Alaska and Arizona. They made many friends in their travels and visited close family members.

Connie’s favorite role in life was becoming a grandmother. She wasted no time and started spoiling her grandchildren at day one. Gram was well loved and will be missed immensely. Connie was proud of her family and extended family. She loved all of them dearly.

In addition to her husband, Connie is survived by her daughters: Linda McRee (Michael) and Lisa Phillips (Wayne) both of Doylestown. She leaves behind her grandchildren: Adam, Hunter, Erin and Jessica. She was predeceased by her brother Thomas N. Thompson (Winona).

Connie’s memorial service will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 30, 2022 at Salem United Church of Christ, 186 East Court Street, Doylestown, PA 18901, where the family will greet guests from 10 a.m., until the time of the service. Interment will be private.
