Wooldridge Pierson Sherwood Oliver

d. July 2, 2017

Wooldridge (Ridge) Pierson Sherwood Oliver, age 24, of Buckingham and Asheville, NC died on July 2, 2017 in Asheville.

Known to most as Ridge, but to family as Bubbies, Ridge was born at Abington Hospital. He was the son of Thomas Pierson Sherwood Oliver and Susan Waller Oliver and the brother to Kelsey Lee Oliver and Kealan Tipton Oliver.

Ridge graduated from Central Bucks High School East. He attended Asheville Buncombe County Community College with an associate’s degree in Psychology. He received an academic scholarship last Friday to attend University of North Carolina at Charlotte next month.

Ridge excelled in everything he attempted. His love for sports, music, fishing and outdoor living was shared with his numerous friends. He was an impressive pitcher and catcher and played baseball from age 4 for Doylestown Athletic Association, Central Bucks High School East Varsity, Doylestown Legion, Diamond Jacks, Dominican Island baseball and on his own “Field of Dreams” at home.

He was in Robe Choir and helped form his own band with friends in Middle School. Ridge picked up guitar and drums quickly and was an amazing singer, often playing guitar and singing for others around a campfire. He followed in his Dad’s footsteps in his love for music and often shared his most recent favorite songs with us. Ridge enjoyed hiking, exploring waterfalls and fishing with his friends in Asheville. He spent time in the beautiful mountains of Colombia, South America, Tioga, PA and Asheville. The outdoors was a sanctuary for Ridge.

He was a deeply compassionate, empathetic and charismatic guy. He often put aside his own struggles to help lessen the pain of others. He spent time in Dallas, TX and Asheville helping the homeless and volunteering at Brother Wolf Animal Rescue. Ridge understood the pain people endured and could wrap his arms around those he saw were also lost in internal conflict. He would often share with us his dream of running a rehab program to help others who were also battling the grip of addiction.

He fought incredibly hard for 7 years with a disease nobody could see from the outside. The incredible fight and constant everyday desire to a life without inner turmoil was a battle all of his family and friends supported him in. Even though the years were short, Ridge lived a beautiful life where he gave love and shared his open heart for all to take.

The Oliver family would like to thank all of the friends who touched Ridge’s life and were always supportive and loving. He loved all of you as well. We will miss him and our loss has no understanding at this time. The memory of Ridge’s love for us will sustain our hearts. The list of his achievements is stored inside his family and friends forever. Our hearts and home will never be the same without our fun-loving, gentle Bubbies.

Ridge is survived by his parents: Dr. and Mrs. Thomas Pierson S. Oliver; his sisters: Kelsey Lee Oliver Carmichael (Josh) and Kealan Tipton Oliver; his aunts: Jane Boone (Dee); Brenda Pace (John), Betty Michel (Greg); his uncle, Roy M. Waller III (Jennifer); his cousins: Forrest Cannon (Chiyou and baby Cordelia); Lee Cannon, Matthew Michel (Whitley and baby Olivia); Alison M. Wrenne (Daniel and children Noah and Henry); Claire McKay Waller and Eliza Grace Waller.
