William J. Bishop of Lansdale, passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at Jefferson Abington Hospital in Abington, PA, after a short illness. He was the loving husband for 58 years of his high school sweetheart, Anne Kircher Bishop.
Born in 1942 at Abington Hospital, he was the son of the late George Bergey Bishop and Verna Smith Bishop of Harmony Hill Farm in Fountainville.
He was a cub scout in Troop 24, earning ranks all the way to Eagle Scout and Order of the Arrow.
He attended Kutz Elementary School, Central Bucks High School class of 1960, West Nottingham Academy Prep School in Colora MD, graduated with a BA degree in Social Work from Bluffton University in Bluffton OH and received an MSW from Marywood University School of Social Work in Scranton, PA.
After being drafted by the U.S. Army in 1966 and doing a tour of duty in Cu Chi, Vietnam for thirteen months as a radioteletype operator, he earned the Bronze Star upon discharge .
After the Service, Bill was employed by the County of Bucks as a caseworker, then a supervisor for the Department of Children and Youth in the Protective Services Division for 28 years.
After retirement, Bill was a volunteer gardener for Heritage Conservancy at Aldie Mansion in Doylestown, served on the board of managers of Doylestown Cemetery and was a sixty-six year member, an elder and choir member at Doylestown Presbyterian Church.
Bill is survived by his wife, Anne, sons: David and Paul and two grandsons: Gabriel and Ethan. He was preceded in death by his two brothers: Stanton D. and Daniel S. Bishop.
Relatives and friends are invited to his memorial service at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Doylestown Presbyterian Church, 127 East Court Street, Doylestown. Interment will be private.
