Rowena B. Krause (affectionately known as Peanut) passed away peacefully on June 11, 2022, in Toms River, New Jersey. She was 96 years old and the wife of the late Herbert E. Krause.
Born in Ferndale, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late Peter and Verna Stone Bartman and sister of the late S. Blanche Wehrung and Doris Pierson.
After marrying the love of her life, Herbert, they built a house in Ottsville, Pennsylvania where Rowena worked together with her husband in their excavation company for over 30 years. They lived in Ottsville for many years, eventually moving to Revere, Pennsylvania.
After retirement they moved to Stroudsburg in 1982. Not being able to sit idle, Rowena obtained her Real estate license and was a successful realtor in the Stroudsburg, Pocono region for many years.
Shortly after the death of her husband, Rowena moved to the Crestwood Village retirement community in Whiting NJ. While in Whiting she enjoyed volunteering at the local elementary school assisting children with their reading and writing. Rowena was an avid reader and continued her passion for learning throughout her life. She loved to write short stories and poems, and even had a few poems published. Rowena loved the outdoors and enjoyed traveling.
With a sly smile and quick wit, Peanut was always known to give her friends and loved ones a playful tease, followed by a laugh that will forever be missed.
She is survived by her two daughters, Angelique Duvall, of Rutland,Vermont and Vicki Steinbach of Doylestown, Pennsylvania, along with three grandchildren: Adam Steinbach, Sarah Steinbach and Benjamin Steinbach, his wife, Amanda, and two great-granddaughters, Quinn, and Lydia.
Keeping with Rowena’s wishes, a simple Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 18 at Nockamixon Union Cemetery, Church Hill Road., Ferndale, Pennsylvania.
