Rita Parsil lived on this earth for more than 100 years. She died in her residence at The Manor at Yorktown on March 27, 2022.
Rita was born in Lynbrook, NY. She was the daughter of the late Catherine R. and Edwin W. Parsil. Rita was predeceased by her sister, Harriet Schutz and brother, Edwin W. Parsil Jr.
Rita received a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from Russell Sage College, Troy, NY in 1943. While there, she was president of the equestrian club. She started her career in the lab and eventually, after receiving an MBA from NYU, worked her way up through management in several of the larger pharmaceutical companies. Her last employment was with Ciba-Geigy, now Novartis. Her job frequently took her to Europe.
Rita was an excellent cook and enjoyed entertaining friends and colleagues. After retirement, she remained on Long Island to care for her mother and brother. She played organ every week, as she had done her whole adult life, at the Half Hollow Community Church across the road from their home in Dix Hills. Upon their deaths, Rita moved to The Manor in Jamison to be near her sister and niece. In her new home she had a special friendship with another resident, Clark Hopkins. They frequently took trips and cruises together.
Rita is survived by her nephew, George E. Schutz of Newbury, MA and niece, Catherine R. Getchell of Bedminster, PA. She is also survived and missed by her long time caregiver, Diane McLaughlin.
Rita’s ashes will be taken to Long Island to the family plot in the near future.
