Reoloff “Junior” S. Rice, Jr., a life-long resident of Solebury Township died peacefully at his home on Thursday, December 26, 2024. He was 79 and the husband for 44 years of Patricia (McEntyre) Rice.
Born on September 15, 1945 in Abington, he was the son of the late Reoloff S. and Laura B. Vasey, and brother of Abigail Riopel.
In addition to his wife, Patricia, he is survived by his beloved children and grandchildren: Elizabeth Rice and her husband Chris Fulk of Solebury; his grand dog Trixie Bell; Amy (Rice) Mularski and her husband Steve of Broomall; and their children Madeline, Stephen, and Joseph Mularski.
Junior, as he was known to family and friends, spent his entire life in Solebury. He started out in the farmhouse of Rice’s Market on Greenhill Road where he lived and helped his family with the business. Upon his father’s death, when he was just 13, he moved with his mother and sister to the house where he lived until his death on Street Road.
Junior went to school at New Hope-Solebury; he was a graduate of the class of 1964.
After school, Junior worked with his uncles and family on their farms throughout Solebury and Buckingham. He was drafted to Vietnam and spent about two and a half years training for and serving his country. Upon his return, his family farms had been sold, so he worked at local Buckey Farm. He then spent time at Riley Paving before finding his career working for the local townships’ road departments. He spent several years with Buckingham Township before transitioning to and ultimately retiring from Solebury Township.
He was an active member of the Midway Volunteer Fire Company, Station #5, for more than 20 years. Junior enjoyed Midway reunions where he could reminisce with other old-timers.
Junior looked forward to the time he and his family spent outdoors. He looked enjoyed camping in New Holland, PA, exploring the farmstands, local businesses, and restaurants. He loved being in his yard, tending to his vegetable garden and fruit trees. He also spent his life devoted to the numerous pets at his home.
A memorial service for Junior will be held at 7 p.m., Friday, January 3, 2025 at Reed & Steinbach Funeral Home, 2335 Lower State Road, Doylestown, where relatives and friends will be received from 5:30 until the time of the service. Interment will be private.
