Peter Jerome Mack of Center Valley, Pennsylvania passed away on Wednesday, December 5, 2023, following a series of complications associated with heart failure. He was 80 years young. He is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Donna (Kline) Mack.
Born in Philadelphia Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Peter A. and Doris B. Mack.
Peter grew up on Oakmont Street in Philadelphia and graduated from Father Judge High School in 1961. His strong character and love for his country led him to enlist in the Marine Corp Reserve.
Peter found his niche and excelled in the world of Commercial Insurance as a Broker. He started at Frank B. Hall in Philadelphia, Pa in 1966 and left there in 1987 to work at Alexander & Alexander (Aon Risk Services) as VP of Insurance. He held various positions as an account executive, team leader, unit leader and mentor to those entering the business. He specialized in complex and large commercial risks. In 2002, at the age of 59, he began to talk about retiring to Stowe, Vermont full-time and finding a job at one of the ski resorts or at a local establishment to pass some time. Instead, he was offered a transfer to Aon’s Burlington, Vermont office that specialized in captive programs. New to him, he excitedly took the challenge and worked for another 7 years before finally retiring in 2009 at the age of 66.
Peter especially loved cold weather, mountains, and snow. He spent the first fifteen years of his retirement living in Stowe, Vermont before returning to Pennsylvania to be closer to family. He had a passion for traveling and was always planning his next trip. He took his family on yearly summer road trips driving from one national park to the next and across all 48 contiguous states. He was especially interested in traveling to remote places and as far north as possible. He visited Iceland, and Greenland, and the Northwest Territories. When he wasn’t traveling, or planning his next trip, Peter enjoyed watching college football, drinking iced tea on his deck, puttering in his yard, and tending to his meticulously maintained landscape beds and gardens.
He will be greatly missed by his family including his wife, Donna, and his children, Donna M. Wahl (Christopher) of Pipersville, Kathleen M. Moelter (Stephen) of Doylestown, and Thomas J. Mack of Holland, Pa. His grandchildren, Michael Wahl (Ashley Voorhees) of Dublin, Pa, Matthew, and Jessica Wahl of Pipersville, Owen and Noah Moelter of Doylestown, and Cayle, Austin, and Maddy Mack of Lansdale will miss his silly antics and sense of humor. Peter is also survived by his sister, Doris O’Donnell of Holland and his brother Bernie Mack (Eileen) of Succasunna, New Jersey. Peter was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Raymond O’Donnell.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his memorial Mass at 10 a.m., Wednesday, December 20 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel 235 East State Street, Doylestown, where friends may call from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Bensalem, PA.
