Nancy G. Wells of Doylestown, passed away Sunday, December 12, 2021. She was 82 and the wife of the late George Wells.
Born in Ardmore in 1939 to the late George Tunnell and Mary Helen McCall Coulter, Nancy was an only child.
From 1963 until 1984, Nancy lived in Orange County, California. In 1981 she and George bought a second residence in Bucks County and came home to Pennsylvania.
Whatever Nancy put her hand to, she did well. She was a wonderful artist. Her needlepoint designs were sold at Jebba Needlepoint in Corona del Mar. She also painted beautiful watercolor and oil paintings in her spare time.
Nancy was an amazing gardener, with an eye for design and working with the existing land; her gardens were lovely in all four seasons. Working in her garden brought Nancy such joy – she was always planting, pruning and working to keep her gardens beautiful. Nancy’s gardens and interior design work were featured in both Traditional Homes (July 1992) and Bucks County Town & Country Living (summer 1993) magazines.
Nancy was very involved in her community and a born leader. In California she volunteered for the League of Women Voters, designed and silk-screened t-shirts for her daughter’s elementary school and even coached softball one year.
While in Bucks County she was the chair of the Buckingham Township Historical Society and wrote a history of Mechanicsville. She was also on the executive committee for the Bucks County Center for the Performing Arts, an officer with the Hardy Plant Society and President of her local Questers chapter.
For a time, Nancy and George also opened their home, Stoneymead, as a Bed & Breakfast; she was always a gracious host. Nancy loved to travel, play bridge, cook and spend time with her family and friends.
Nancy is survived by her daughter, Laura Crawley, her husband, Bruce and grandchildren: Ian and Alexandra.
A memorial service will be held from 12 to 3 p.m., Sunday, April 25th at Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve, Moore Pavillion, 1635 River Road, New Hope. Please RSVP to Laura Crawley at: [email protected] .
