Mildred Doris Lazo, 98, of St. Clair, PA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 17, 2023 at her Pine Run Retirement Community residence in Doylestown, PA
Mildred graduated from Abington Memorial Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse after graduating from high school. She then met and married her husband, John Lazo. John and “Millie,” as he called her, lived most of their lives in Audubon, New Jersey, raising their three children, John, Michael and Susan. Always dedicated to her family, Millie worked the night shift at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital for many years so she could be home with her children during the day.
In 1974, Millie earned her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Glassboro State University now Rowan University — and she graduated on the same day as her daughter and son-in-law, who also received diplomas from the same university. It was then that she got the chance to work in her dream job as a school nurse at Clementon Elementary School. Once she retired, she was able to devote herself to her family and her passions. She spent many happy years swimming, playing the piano, gardening, traveling, and going to flea markets.
One of the things Millie loved to do most was spend time with her grandchildren, all of whom make up some of her most cherished memories. You could always find a smile on her face, even when she was sleeping. She was kind and graceful, and had a remarkable ability to respond to almost any question with a delightfully funny quip.
Mildred will be greatly missed by her family.
She is survived by her three children and their families: John and Jacqui Lazo, Michael and Denise Lazo and Susan and Mark Dilts. She was a dedicated, loving grandmother to six grandchildren and their families: Natasha and Brian Jones and their daughters, Molly and Sadie; Christopher and Meen Dilts and their daughter, Matchaya; Nason and Larissa Dilts and their children, Luna, Zoe and Malcolm; Jacquelyn and Aaron Fernstrom and their daughter, Emma; Christiana Lazo and Gustavo Gonzalez and their children, Cecilia and Joaquin; and her grandson, Matthew Dilts, as well as her brother and sister-in law, Robert and Janet Popowich. She was predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Joan Popowich.
A special thanks to all the staff at Pine Run Community who took such wonderful care of our mother over the years that she lived there. They are truly our guardian angels.
Relatives and friends are invited to her funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Oct 6 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 235 East State Street, Doylestown, where the family will greet guests from 9:30 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. Interment will follow Mass in Our Lady of Częstochowa, Doylestown.
