Marie Giedgowd of Doylestown died May 28, 2023 at 95 years of age. She died at Neshaminy Manor, where she spent the last three years of her life and received excellent care.
Marie was born in New Britain Township, the daughter of the late Joseph and Clara Baranski Gorczyca. Marie was married to Henry Giedgowd for 38 years before he died in 1988.
Marie lived in the Doylestown area all her life. She attended Doylestown High School and was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. She worked as a bookkeeper for Harold Bishop’s farm machinery business before her marriage. Always tending to home and family first, Marie occasionally worked as a substitute teacher at OLMC elementary school, and then worked for the Central Bucks School District. Later in life she helped her sister Helen maintain the Davis Tavern in Danboro and worked for Byers’ Choice. Marie was proud of her Polish heritage and regularly volunteered at the Shrine of Czestochowa Polish Festival. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and cryptograms and was an amazing baker, noted for her apple pies. She was an accomplished vegetable gardener, was warm and pleasant to all, and always carried herself with a quiet dignity.
Marie is survived by her four children: Teresa Joshua, her husband, Bud, of Huntingdon Valley; Tom Giedgowd, his wife, Katie of Strafford; Joe Giedgowd, his wife, Bettijean of Doylestown and Ed Giedgowd, his wife, Phyllis of Danville, California. Also surviving are twelve grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
Relatives and friends are invited to her funeral service at 11 a.m., Friday June 16, 2023 at Reed and Steinbach Funeral Home, 2335 Lower State Road, Doylestown, where the family will greet guests from 10 a.m., until the time of the service. Interment will follow in St. John Neumann Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Marie’s name may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
