Marguerite McGarvey of New Hope/Doylestown, PA died on May 28, 2023. She was 82 years old. For 61 years she was married to Joseph F.X. McGarvey.
Peggy was born in Philadelphia and was the daughter of Ignatius Loyola McCormick and Marguerite Helen (Galli) McCormick. Peggy was the third of seven children.
Peggy grew up in Sharon Hill, PA and attended Holy Child Academy High School before obtaining a degree in nursing from Villanova University and later a Master’s Degree in nursing from Beaver College.
In 1969 she moved to Doylestown and would become a long-time member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. For the last five years, Peggy and Joe lived in New Hope, PA.
Peggy was very involved for many years in the Doylestown Village Improvement Association. She served as the VIA’s President in the late 1990’s and for one year coordinated the VIA’s Designer House Fundraiser.
Peggy led an active life and particularly enjoyed playing tennis. She also enjoyed playing cards, antiquing, reading, baking, decorating, skiing, and traveling. Peggy and Joe made many great memories traveling all over the world with family and friends. She also loved spending time in Ocean City, New Jersey. Relaxing on the beach, going for long walks, bike rides, getting treats on the boardwalk, and spending time with her grandchildren were a regular part of the day in Ocean City.
Above all Peggy was a loving wife and mother that was dedicated to her family.
Peg is survived by her husband, Joseph McGarvey, and her four children: Joseph McGarvey of Doylestown, Marguerite McGarvey (Jack Whitaker), Ceceilia (Rick) Markham and Heather (Daniel) Young. In addition, her eight grandchildren: Matthew, Andrew, Rebecca, Benjamin, Cameron, Max, Daniel, and Alanna, as well as her three sisters: Vicki McCormick, Roz Kane and Pam Reynolds.
Relatives and friends are invited to her funeral Mass, at 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 9th, 2023 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 235 East State Street, Doylestown, PA. The family will greet guests from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Interment will follow at Saint Mary Cemetery.
