Lois F. McClintock passed away due to declining health on December 17 at Doylestown Hospital. She was 92.
Born in Berwick, PA, Lois was the only child of the late Lewis and Rebecca Frantz. She grew up in Berwick, graduating from Berwick High School.
From an early age, she was drawn to books, a passion that would turn into a career. She received her B. Ed. In Library Education from Kutztown University and went on to receive her master’s degree in education from Lehigh University. Lois served as a Central Bucks School District elementary school librarian for 33 years, working mostly at Linden and Doyle Elementary Schools. She cultivated an interest in everything from rare books to special collections of notable children’s authors such as Tasha Tudor and Beatrix Potter. Her passion for women’s education led her to become a board member and past president of A.A.U.W. (American Association of University Women.)
Her knowledge of books and literature was complemented by an interest in history, especially local, German and Native American. She was a member of the Bucks Country Historical Society, where she served on the collections committee. Other memberships in historical societies include the Pennsylvania German Society, the Mennonite Heritage Center in Harleysville, the Pennsylvania Mennonite Heritage in Lancaster and the Napoleonic Society of America. Her interest in history and culture led her to travel widely, with her most regular destination being Germany and other European Countries.
She loved flowers and gardening. Her garden won the Central Bucks Chamber of Commerce “Bucks Beautiful” garden award three times and gardening led her commitment to protecting the environment. She served as past president of Bucks County Audubon and board member of Friends of Peace Valley Nature Center.
Her volunteer work ranged from local to international, from Doylestown Hospital to countries in Central America with the Discovery Service Projects and classrooms and libraries in the Southwest U.S.A. on Hopi and Navajo reservations. Her dedication to the enrichment of Bucks County led to her designation as ”Bucks County Woman of the Year” in 2003. She was a long-time member of Doylestown Presbyterian Church, serving as an Elder.
She is loved deeply and survived by her sons, Douglas and David McClintock, her daughter-in-law, Ellen McClintock, her two granddaughters, Anna (Alex) and Corey (Loizos) McClintock, and her great-grandson, Nicolas Nicolaou McClintock.
In lieu of flowers Lois asked everyone to pass along an act of kindness and consider contributing to Heifer International (heifer.org) and/or Native American organizations, such as the American Indian Education Fund, a program of Partnership with Native Americans (nativepartnership.org).
Her memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 13 at Doylestown Presbyterian Church, 127 East Court Street, Doylestown. Interment will be private.
