Laurence C. “Larry” Glass went to be with the Lord on October 4, 2024 at the Pine Run Health Center in Doylestown, PA. He was 95 years old.
Larry was born in Bryn Mawr, PA to the late Salome and Laurence C. Glass Sr. He was predeceased by 2nd cousin Margaret Tredick, half-sister Annabel (Rod) Markley, brother-in-law Al Bodenhorn, sister-in-law Ginny Cole, and granddaughter Sarah McKeown.
He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, the former Lola Deibert of Danville, PA, daughters Sandi (Bob) Hardin and Beth (Steve) McKeown, son Clif (Pat) Glass, granddaughter Laura McKeown York (Bill), sister-in-law Lori (Deibert) Bodenhorn, brother-in-law Fred Cole, and several nieces and a nephew.
Larry graduated from Malvern Preparatory School in 1947 and attended Temple University. He was a sergeant in the Army Signal Corps from 1948-1952, stationed in Alaska where he managed audio-visual training resources. He then took a job working the front desk at the Windsor Hotel in Cape May, NJ where he met Lola. He was a medical instruments expediter at Leeds & Northrup in North Wales, PA until 1966, and then a private investor.
As a devoted Christian, Larry was a member of the Doylestown United Methodist Church for over 55 years. He served in various ministries for many years --including financial secretary, adult and junior high Sunday School teacher, softball team manager and catcher-- and sang in the choir. He selflessly served widows in the church by helping them with their taxes and other financial needs.
He also volunteered his time and skills as the treasurer for Pine Run Village, the Village PARVEE Foundation, and Big Gull Lake East End Cottage Association.
Larry was committed to exercise, whether it was walking, working out at the gym, or doing Army calisthenics. He loved to sing in the Pine Run Chorus as well as garden, fish, row, bowl in a league, golf, and root for both the CB West football team and the Eagles. Larry loved animals, but was especially fond of cats. He was also very proud of the fact that he was a descendant of Robert Fulton, inventor of the steamboat.
As a child and teen, he spent his summers in Cape May, NJ and later loved traveling the country and the world with Lola. His cottage at Big Gull Lake in Ontario, Canada was a cherished place for him to work and play, and to bring his family and friends for 55 years.
His funeral service was on Saturday, October 12, 2024 at Doylestown United Methodist Church. Interment was in Doylestown Cemetery.
