Judith Weir Finch

Judith Weir Finch of Doylestown died on Sunday January 7, 2024, at Wesley Enhanced Living in Media, PA. She was 93 years of age. Judy was married to William E. Weir for 55 years. She married her co-worker, the late Bernard L. Finch of Doylestown several years later. He died in November of 2023. It was the second marriage for both and lasted 19 years.

Judy was born in Philadelphia, the only daughter of the late George E. and Dorothy B. Scharlach.

She graduated from Girl’s High in Philadelphia in 1947. In the same year she married her husband, Bill whom she met at a Methodist church function. In 1957, with their two little boys and her parents, they moved to Edison residing at “Bridgepoint” at 68 Quarry Road for 45 years.

Judy had a wide and various number of interests and loves in her life. Most importantly, she loved God and believed Jesus Christ was her savior and guiding light and she tried to live that belief. Doylestown United Methodist Church, where she served as President of the United Methodist Women for most years between 1967 and 2021 and headed the First Peach Festival and served for 30 years, was a focal point of her energy. Judy began her church work as youth director for the first junior high youth group and then became the senior high youth group advisor. She chaired the Dorcas Circle of the Women’s group for many years and was active in Bible studies and finances of the church, also. Judy was truly a pillar of her church.

Employed as a bookkeeper, she worked at Deane Motors where she met and became the wife of Bernard after the loss of her husband, Bill, and the passing of Bernie’s wife, Nan.

Some of her other interests were artistic, both watercolor painting and pen and ink drawing; reading; especially mysteries, colonial history and she was an original member in 1971 of the Featherbed Questor group. Gardening was another passion being a member of the Lingohocken Garden Club from 2003 to the present.

Besides God, her husbands, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Judy probably loved the shore the most. From the time she was born through 2011 Judy, family and friends were at Seaside Park every summer for at least some portion of the season, a good deal of the time at Uncle Alec’s seven-bedroom sea bungalow on C street. In 1977 she and Bill bought their own home there and entertained their children, grandchildren and friends with much love and joy until 2011.

Judy was the mother and is survived by her son, G. Richard “Dick” Weir. his wife Marlene of Delray Beach, FL and daughter, Patricia “Patty” D. Snyder, her husband David of Lincoln University, PA, as well as six grandchildren: Jessica L. Weir, Amanda D. Stamper, Andrew G. Snyder, Evan Snyder, Timothy W. Weir, and David S. Weir and three great-grandchildren: Haruka, Tomoki and Misaki Weir.
