Joseph Paul Skapik of Danboro died on Tuesday, September 26 at Doylestown Hospital. He was 91 and the husband for 63 years of Alice C. Bushko Skapik.
Born in Coaldale, PA he was the son of the late Joseph P. and Sidonia Matovich Skapik.
Joseph was a graduate of Coaldale High School and served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 until 1946 earning Pacific Theater Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon and the Victory Medal.
After working as a machinist for several years, Joe joined the Pennsylvania State Police in 1950 retiring in 1986 as Lieutenant at Troop M-Dublin. His service for the State Police included several years teaching at the State Police Academy in Hershey. In June of 2014, Joseph was awarded the Pennsylvania State Police Purple Heart for injuries sustained in the line of duty in 1985. Following his retirement, he co-founded J&J Detective Agency, retiring again in 1996.
Joe is survived by this children: Patricia Boggs, her husband, Kenneth; Marie McShea, her husband, Brian; Joseph Skapik, his wife, Janice; Andrew Skapik, his wife, Sandra, as well as his grandchildren: Joseph, Julia, Riley, Morgan and Evan Skapik.
Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral Mass at 10 a.m., Monday, October 9 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 235 East State Street, Doylestown. Interment will follow Mass in Doylestown Cemetery. The family will receive guests from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, October 6 at Reed and Steinbach Funeral Home, 2335 Lower State Road, Doylestown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Joe’s name may be made to Plumsteadville Volunteer Fire Company, Post Office Box 405, Plumsteadville, PA 18949.
