Joseph A. Simpson, Jr., of Doylestown, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on June 13, 2019. He was 83 and the beloved husband of Eleanor (Scavello) Simpson.
Born in Norristown, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Joseph and Catherine Simpson.
Joe graduated from Saint Patrick’s High School in Norristown, Class of 1954 and proudly served in the U.S. Navy.
Married in 1958, Joe and Eleanor raised six children and Joe worked a variety of jobs to support the family. He enjoyed his work as a manager for W.T. Grant, but it was his seven years as a bar manager for Plumsteadville Inn that solidified his dream of one day opening his own restaurant.
In 1981, Joe and Eleanor opened “Mammy Morgan’s” in Easton, Pennsylvania. After ten years of ownership, he and Eleanor sold the business and realized their dream of semi-retiring in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. On their front yard was a sign that read “A Time for Us.” While there, Joe and Eleanor both enjoyed employment at Ocean Point Inn.
After 21 years of enjoying the peace and tranquility of Maine, they returned to Pennsylvania and a rapidly expanding family of 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren (two more on the way), whom he adored.
In addition to his wife, Joe is survived by his six children and their spouses: Cheryl (Tom) Hennessy, Mark (Mary)Simpson, Brenda (Butch) Cutsler, Joe (Theresa) Simpson, Christine (Jason) Cook and Matthew Simpson (Murad Kirdar). He is also survived by two sisters: Marie (Bill) Baker and Rosemary (Jim) Baker. He predeceased by his sister, Kathryn Simpson and brother, Thomas Simpson.
