Joan S. Sturtevant, age 91, a resident at Wesley Enhanced Living in Doylestown, PA died on March 9, 2023.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, Joan was the daughter of the late Dr. Samuel Sullivan and Adelaide (Ingram) Sullivan.
Joan spent her childhood in Stroudsburg, PA and was a graduate of Penn Hall Preparatory School in Chambersburg, PA. Joan received her B.A. degree from Boston University where while waiting in line at the school bookstore she met her future husband of 65 years the late Edward J. Sturtevant. Joan received her Master’s degree from Lehigh University in Guidance Counseling. She was employed as a high school Guidance Counselor for the Centennial School District in Bucks County, PA.
Joan was an active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. She volunteered her time in counseling, was a member of the Bucks County SPCA , an active member of the Pennsylvania Questers, participated in food delivery for Meals on Wheels of Central Bucks County and was a beloved member of the Mink Pond Club in Bushkill, PA. Joan traveled extensively with her husband taking many trips to faraway places while always learning about the people and their cultures as part of that travel.
Joan is survived by two daughters: Susan Sturtevant and Andrea (Francis) Golen both residing in Malvern, PA; two grandchildren: Kevin Golen (Jessica) and Kristen Wuestman (Ryan) both residing in Fairfield, CT and four beautiful great-grandchildren: Quinn, Brayden, Dylan and Nolan. Joan also leaves behind five nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Jean Sullivan Hirschberg.
Relatives and friends are invited to her memorial Mass on May 20, 2023 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 84 East Oakland Avenue, Doylestown, PA 18901. Interment will be private.
