Jean M. Seidel

d. March 6, 2024

Jean Mildred Seidel of Doylestown died on Wednesday March 6, 2024, at Fort Washington Estates in Fort Washington, PA. She was 94 years of age and the wife for sixty-five years of Richard “Dick” F. Seidel. They met at a wedding, fell in love, and have been together ever since.

Jean was born in Slatington PA, the fourth child of the late Elmer and Elda Smith.

The family moved to Hatboro PA when she was eight years old. She enjoyed school at Hatboro, was an exceptionally good student and part of the National Honor Society. Although being shy in front of a crowd, she participated in school plays and was elected May Queen in elementary school. She had many friends in school and was on the field hockey and basketball teams. Above all, Jean liked to dance. Jean, sister Betty and friends would go to the Warwick Hotel USO dance hall in Philadelphia during the weekends and dance with the troops. In 1958, Richard and Jean moved to Doylestown, residing at “Duane Road” for 61 years.

Following graduation, Jean enjoyed a career as an administrative assistant working at Hatboro High School, Asplundh, Miller & Cornell, Deane Motors and Chalfont Sewer Authority. In her later years she continued to use her skills volunteering at Doylestown Hospital Hospice in the office.

Jean had a diverse number of interests and loves in her life. Most importantly, she loved God and believed Jesus Christ was her savior and guiding light. She was a faithful member of the Doylestown United Methodist Church where she was an assistant Sunday school teacher, member of the Dorcas circle, and helped at the annual fall Peach Festival. She was a member of the Lingohocken Garden Club. Jean loved her family, friends, and neighbors. Playing cards with them, whether it be Pinochle, Rummy, Crazy Eights, Go Fish, was always a joy. She loved the beach, gardening, reading, puzzles, and swimming in the neighbor’s pool. Jean will always be remembered for her gelatin salad & brownies. Jean was a devoted wife, mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

In addition to her husband Dick, Jean is survived by her loving children: Frank Seidel, his wife, Ilze; Rick Seidel, his wife, Sue and Sue Bryan, her husband, Keat; three grandchildren; Travis Bryan, his wife, Aly; Lindsay Seidel and David Seidel as well as her great-grandson: Jack Bryan and sister, Nancy Tomlinson. Jean was predeceased by her sister, Betty Pitrone and two brothers: Elmer Smith and Willard “Bill” Smith.

Funeral services were private.
