Ethel M. Godown Hager, a lifelong resident of Bucks County, went home to her Lord on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at Wesley Enhanced Living, Doylestown. She was 96.

Born in Swedesboro, NJ, Ethel was the daughter of the late Robert H. and Lillian Frasier Godown. She grew up in the Doylestown area.

Ethel was married to the late Stanley V. Hager for 69 years. She and Stan raised five children.

She worked in Spiller Hosiery Mill, Thomas and Betts Manufacturing and Penn Engineering. She most enjoyed growing flowers at Warrington Greenhouses for 23 years.

Ethel attended Furlong Chapel, First Baptist Church, Doylestown, Warrington Fellowship Church, Salem UCC, Doylestown and Christian services at Wesley Enhanced Living. Witnessing and living her strong Christian faith was an important aspect of her life.

Ethel was seldom idle. She loved visits from family and friends, especially those of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed embroidery and sewing. She made hundreds of quilts, which she donated to local organizations. She loved gardening, reading, playing pinochle and other games, listening to music and caring for plants.

She volunteered for Pioneer Girls, many local charities and volunteer activities through WEL. She enjoyed visiting people in the nursing center at WEL and taking them their favorite treats.

Surviving are her children, Stanley V. Hager Jr., his wife Ruth, of Doylestown, Barbara R. Huber, her husband Russell, of Plumstead Twp., Jeanette L. Campbell, her husband, Charles, of Bethlehem and Richard L. Hager, his wife Lynne, of Pipersville; her daughter-in-law, Nadine Hager of Sterling, PA; 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son, Albert A. Hager, her brothers: Harry, Arthur, Albert and Vernon Godown, her sisters, Lena Strouse and Anna Rutherford, as well her grandson, Dwayne Hager.

Family and friends are invited to her memorial service 11 a.m., Saturday, June 18, 2016, at Reed and Steinbach Funeral Home, 2335 Lower State Road, Doylestown, where the family will receive guests from 10 a.m., until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Ethel’s name may be made to Wesley Enhanced Living Benevolence Fund, 200 Veterans Lane, Doylestown, PA, 18901; Habitat for Humanity of Bucks County, 31 Oak Avenue, Suite 100, Chalfont, PA 18914; Grandview Hospice, 700 Lawn Avenue, Sellersville, PA, 18960; or a charity of the donor’s choice.
