Elizabeth Rose Gates (née Stockhausen) of Doylestown passed away on July 17, 2024, at The Garden at Pine Run in Doylestown. She was 87 years old. Elizabeth was the beloved wife of the late John Ward Gates.

Born in North Bergen, New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late Charles Stockhausen and Elizabeth Haring.

Elizabeth had a lifelong love of learning, studying various subjects at New York University, Fairleigh Dickinson University, and Bucks County Community College before earning her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Tyler School of Art in Elkins Park. Throughout her career in art, she produced a wide variety of unique and often whimsical works, focusing mainly on printmaking, calligraphy, painting, and pastel media. She was an active member of the Upstairs Gallery in Lahaska for many years, where she also served as director. Her other memberships included the Doylestown Art League, the North Penn Arts Alliance, the Printmaking Council of New Jersey, the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society, the Washington Calligraphers Guild, and the Society of Scribes. Elizabeth had been a resident of Doylestown for the past 50 years.

She is survived by her loving sons: John (Victoria) and Robert (Satoko), along with her cherished grandchildren, two granddaughters and three grandsons. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her brother, Charles, and her sisters, Louise and Charlotte.

The family will greet guests from 10 to 11 a.m., Friday, July 26, at Reed & Steinbach Funeral Home, 2335 Lower State Road, Doylestown. Interment will follow in Whitemarsh Memorial Park, 1169 Limekiln Pike, Ambler.
