Eleanor was born in Philadelphia in 1931, to her parents, Clara (Ayerle) and Julius Adomeit. She grew up in North Philadelphia during the depression, and carried the lessons of thrift, saving, sharing, and caring for the less fortunate, throughout her life.
As a teen, she moved to the Burholme section of Philadelphia and graduated from Olney High School. She met her husband, Walter, at a dance on North Broad Street in 1950, and they were married two years later. Walter built them a sturdy brick house in Abington, Pennsylvania where they raised their four children, dog, box turtle, and two guinea pigs.
Eleanor was exceedingly kind and caring. Friends, family, and the neighborhood children were always welcome in her home. She and Walter traveled the world and summered in Ocean City, New Jersey, making many friends along the way. Their door and dock were always open, and their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren shared many happy memories at the shore with Nanny and Grandpop.
In 2012, Eleanor lost her soulmate, Walter. Her memory was fading, so she moved to Fort Washington Estates where she received excellent care. Her kindness continued. The staff always commented on how nice she was – thanking them for their attention and trying to help them with their job. Recently, even when she no longer recognized her guests, she always welcomed them and wanted to share her meal.
Eleanor will be sorely missed, but her spirit of love, kindness, and gratitude will remain with all who knew her. Eleanor is survived by her daughters: Karen Greilich, wife of Ronald of Dresher; Lori Stevens, partner of Thomas Holder of Berwyn; Janine Asher, wife of David of Oreland; her son Walter Brucker III (Chip), husband of Julia of Perkasie; her nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
