Elaine R. Squarcia

d. November 7, 2021

Elaine Rae Squarcia, the matriarch of our family, on All Saints Sunday, November 7, passed above in to God’s loving arms.

Born in Doylestown, Elaine was the only child of the late Isaac and Gladys (Shively) Snyder.

She graduated from Doylestown High School, class of 1945 and was a graduate of Atlantic City School of Nursing. She practiced the art of nursing at Doylestown Hospital for more than thirty years in the Delivery and Recovery Department. She delivered over fifty babies herself in those early hospital days. The family was often stopped on the street being told of her wonderful bedside nursing care. After more than thirty years of hospital nursing, Elaine retired and continued to bless her family and friends with her strength, wit and support. Elaine cared for thousands of patients doing private duty and in the office of Dr. Shoenthal in New Hope.

One of her best memories was of her yearly trips to Vermont with her husband. She enjoyed trips to China, Australia and Europe with her best friend, who is like a sister, Betty Linde. She always went above and beyond for our family. She loved the people of Doylestown and would often say, “There goes one of my babies.”

Elaine was a patron of many charities, including Bucks County Humane Society and Bucks County Special Olympics. In lieu of flowers please consider those organizations. Elaine was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Chalfont.

Elaine taught her family the gift of appreciation of diversity and the application of inclusiveness. The more years God gave her to us the more precious she became. Elaine will always be remembered for her excellent knitting, leather tooling and her great love for Penn State football and the Phillies. The best expressions of sympathy are to love, accept and to never look away from the needs of others as Elaine demonstrated. In these last years, she was surrounded by a neighborhood team of over eighteen people that made her life a life of quality and beauty. Among them are: David and Florence Hughes, Millie Hughes, Dr. and Mrs. Brett Harrison and her family at Aunt Judy’s Restaurant.

Elaine is survived by her daughter, Rev. Sheila Auer, of Sugar Grove, PA and three grandchildren: Dr. Lisa Ann Pan ,of Pittsburgh, PA, John Christopher White, of Tampa, FL and Laura Elaine Civelek, her husband, Dr. Ismail Civelek of Bowling Green, KY., as well as three great- grandchildren: Zion Thomas, Sofia Pan and Nora Pan of Pittsburgh, PA. Elaine was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Moderno Cristoforo Squarcia and two grandchildren, David Brian and Brian David Frankenfield and her son-in-law, Rev. Kenneth Edwin Auer.

Friends are invited to her funeral service, 10:15 a.m., Saturday, November 13th at Reed and Steinbach Funeral Home, Lower State Road, Doylestown, where the family will greet guests from 9 a.m., until the time of the service. A rose tribute from her friends of the nursing profession will be at 10:15 a.m., followed by her funeral service officiated by Laurie Lewis, Minister of Visitation of Doylestown United Methodist Church. A graveside service will be private.

Masks and socially distancing will be appreciated.
