Dawn Hagan Byers, 51 years old, passed at home surrounded by her family on November 27th, following a courageous 4-year battle with ovarian cancer.
Raised in Audubon, New Jersey, Dawn graduated from Bishop Eustace High School in 1988 and attended Drexel University on a field hockey scholarship, graduating in 1992 with a degree in Corporate Communications. It was at Drexel that she met her husband and best friend, Jeff Byers. Following college, the two settled in Bucks County and raised their two children, Ashlyn and Jake.
Dawn was an accomplished skier, passionate traveler, writer, gardener and crafter. More important, Dawn was a much-loved mother, wife, daughter and friend. She lived life with true passion, bringing energy, optimism and joy to everyone she met and everything she did.
Dawn was a pillar of community service in Bucks County. She had an ability to identify unmet needs and develop meaningful ways to deliver services and care. Some of Dawn’s proudest initiatives include CB Cares, Kids Castle, First Night Doylestown, Bucks Beautiful, Bucks County Children’s Museum, American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, Katrina Relief Fund and Goals Beyond the Net in Haiti.
Most recently, Dawn served as District Constituent Outreach Specialist for a local State Representative.
Once diagnosed in 2017, Dawn shifted her focus toward ovarian cancer. As a patient advocate, she was invited to speak at Fox Chase Cancer Center and Seeds of Hope Garden Party for Cancer Research. Throughout the years, she continued to promote awareness and support research efforts for improved early detection. Dawn passionately shared her story, providing hope and support for others through her energy, enthusiasm, and optimism.
Dawn will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched.
In addition to Jeff, Ashlyn and Jake, Dawn is survived by her mother, Sandy and stepfather, Dale; father, Tom; sisters, Tracy, Lisa, Shelly and Christie and brother, Tommy.
The family will greet guests from 1 to 3 p.m., Sunday, December 19 at Reed and Steinbach Funeral Home, 2335 Lower State Road, Doylestown. Service and interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Dawn’s name may be made to: Build the Kingdom at Kids Castle, 425 Wells Road, Doylestown, PA 18901 in support of Dawn’s longtime passion project.
