Charles J. Poole of Doylestown, passed away on Thursday, October 19, 2023 at Wesley Enhanced Living Doylestown.
Born in Newark, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Richard and Theresa Poole.
Charles attended St Benedict’s Prep School in New Jersey and earned an undergraduate degree in chemistry from Seton Hall University, also in New Jersey. Following college, he served in the Army during the Korean Conflict and after the war earned his MBA from Seton Hall University on the GI Bill.
He worked the majority of his career at American Can Company where he started on the “lab bench” and completed his career in the executive ranks of the company. Prior to retiring in Doylestown over thirty years ago, Charlie and his family lived in New Jersey, Illinois, the UK, Connecticut and Virginia.
Charlie was a man who leaned into everything he did in the hope of improving everything he touched, with a remarkable level of seemingly effortless competence.
In his early years of retirement, Charlie enjoyed gardening, swimming, handyman projects, courses at Del-Val, and protecting his yard from pesky squirrels. In the last eight years at Wesley Enhanced Living, Charlie was active in Resident Council, exercise classes, energy savings ideas, leading “News & Views” and welcoming new residents.
Through it all, he was loyal and a proud supporter of his family, his many friends at Wesley, and “his” beloved New York Yankees.
Charles is survived by his children: Maureen Hamilton (Roger) of Michigan, Kevin Poole (Lisa) of California, Colleen Mason (Tom) of Gilbertsville, PA and his grandchildren: Dallon (Lizz), Julie and Audrey. Charles was proceeded in death by his wife, Dorothy Poole and his son, Brian Poole.
Relatives and friends are invited to his memorial Mass at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 235 East State Street, Doylestown, where the family will greet guests from 9:30am until 10:15 a.m. Interment will be private.
