Carol Elizabeth Weiss passed away at Wesley Enhanced Living in Doylestown on Friday, December 15th, 2023. She was 85 years young. For 59 years she was the beloved wife of the late Leon P. Weiss who passed 2019.
Carol was born in Belfast, County Down in Northern Ireland to the late Dr. Alexander Johnson and Winifred Johnson (Scriven).
Carol and her family sheltered at their rural family home, Willowbrook, in the village of Dunadry during World War II. In 1950 Carol emigrated to Perth, Western Australia with her family where she would continue her schooling until 1955 when she relocated to Lincolnshire, UK to complete her secondary education. She then enrolled in the nursing program at Lincolnshire Hospital. It was here that she met her future husband who was one of her patients. Carol and Leon married in 1960 and settled in Philadelphia and later in Warminster where they raised their four children.
During her professional career, Carol worked at Prudential in Horsham, PA, as well as BARC Developmental Services in Warminster, PA, Pine Run Community in Doylestown, PA and, in “retirement” she was a devoted companion for many elderly people in senior living facilities and also enjoyed working in the office of a Doylestown podiatrist. She was a congregant at Redemption Episcopal Church in Southampton, PA for many years.
Carol loved to travel, especially to Ireland, England, Australia, France and the Jersey Shore where she made many memories with friends and family.
Her hobbies included knitting, sewing, and reading. She knitted dozens of blankets and hats for her grandchildren and sewed countless teddy bears that were given to children who were admitted to the Doylestown Hospital Emergency Department. Carol was also an amazing cook whether it be her famous Shrimp Newburg or an elegant Passover Seder.
Carol is survived by her children: Philip (Lola) Weiss, Richard (Christine) Weiss, Julia (Gary) Bard and Noel (Christine) Weiss. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Sabrina Weiss, Alexander and Bailey Weiss, Charlotte and Peyton Weiss, as well as five nieces and nephews. Carol’s brother Nigel Johnson of Perth, Australia also survives her. Carol was preceded in death by her sister, Jennifer David.
To honor her life, relatives and friends are invited to her memorial service at 11 a.m., Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at Reed and Steinbach Funeral Home, 2335 Lower State Road, Doylestown, Pennsylvania where the family will greet guests from 10:30 a.m., until the time of there service. Interment will be private.
