Carl A. Fitzgerald of Doylestown, Pennsylvania passed away on June 5, 2024. He was 89 years old and the husband for fifty years of the late Irene (Wisniewski) Fitzgerald, who passed in 2014.
Born in Cross Roads, York County, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Howard S. Fitzgerald and Dorothy (Reading) Fitzgerald.
Carl was the son of a United Methodist minister and lived in many central Pennsylvania towns. Carl graduated from Orbisonia High School in 1953 and from the National Agricultural College (now known as Delaware Valley University), located in Doylestown, Pennsylvania in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science degree in horticulture. Carl’s first job after college was working for the USDA at LaGuardia Airport in New York City as a plant quarantine inspector. After meeting his future wife, Irene, they settled in Bucks County and Carl worked for the County Department of Health for 37 years as an inspector. He was an avid vegetable gardener and liked tending to his fruit trees. Carl enjoyed bowling, jigsaw puzzles and reading.
He is survived by his three children: Helen Quinn, her husband, Gregory; Robert Fitzgerald, and Joanne Chaikin, her husband Mark, as well as his four grandchildren: Todd, Lindsay, Austin, and Benjamin. He has one surviving sibling, Louise Zawislak (Wally). His other seven siblings: Howard, John, Mae, Marian, Lynn, Dean, and Ross have all predeceased Carl.
Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral service at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at Reed and Steinbach Funeral Home, 2335 Lower State Road, Doylestown, where the family will greet guests from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment follow in St. John Neumann Cemetery, Chalfont.
