Betty Jean O’Brien, of Doylestown, passed away Friday, October 12, 2018 at Pine Run Community surrounded by her loving family. She was 94 and the wife of the late Dr. Victor J. O’Brien II, who passed away in 2013.
Born in Chicago, Illinois, she was the daughter of the late Versil and Elizabeth Snyder Hassett. During WWII, Betty contributed to the war effort by working in the torpedo factory in Forest Hills, IL.
Betty was a member of the Doylestown Village Improvement Association and was a dedicated volunteer at Doylestown Hospital for 23 years. Betty was kind, loving and full of fun. She and her husband Victor had a long and happy marriage in their 66 years together. Betty went out of her way to help those in need and had a soft spot for all animals, giving homes to four homeless cats over the years. She enjoyed vacations in Ocean City, NJ with her family. In addition to being our mother and friend, Betty was our hero; every day was a new day for Betty. We will miss her deeply and keep her close to our hearts forever.
She is survived by her daughters: Susan Fox, her husband Ed, of California, Barbara Lewis, wife of late husband Scott, of Downingtown, Beth Watts, her husband Ray, of Colorado, Janet Bryant, her husband Iain, of Yardley; her son: Victor J. O’Brien, III, his wife Dana, of Canada; nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren as well as a sister: Joan Hanover, her husband George, of Elgin, IL.
Relatives and friends are invited to her funeral Mass 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 235 East State Street, Doylestown, where friends may call at 10 a.m. at the church prior to the Mass. Interment will be held privately.
