Allan Lloyd Blanchard, 94, of Jamison, passed away Monday, February 26, 2018.
Born in New York, NY, he was the son of the late Carlton and Gertrude Blanchard.
Allan is survived by his wife, Eleanor Schmidt, and predeceased by his first wife Anna Miraldo. He is also survived by his daughter, Barbara Fielding (Roger); his sons, David (Janet) and John (Margaret) and grandchildren: Russel Fielding, Rebecca Fielding, Michelle Baude (Bryan), Stephanie Blanchard, Anna Blanchard, Zachary Blanchard, and Nicholas Blanchard, as well as many nieces and nephews. By his second marriage, he is survived by Susan Orfeo (Tom) and their son, Daniel, and Ken Schmidt (Lisa) and their daughter, Stephanie.
Allan grew up in Norwich, Connecticut and surrounding areas. He was a graduate of Yale University in 1948 (war ’45) with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Allan served in the Army in World War II in the 801st Army Marine Ship Repair Company in the Pacific.
He worked at Philadelphia Electric Company for over 40 years in the Transmission and Construction divisions. Three of the major projects in his career were Conowingo Dam, Peach Bottom and Limerick Nuclear Power Plants.
He was the president of the Ambler Lions/Kiwanis Club, as well president of the Philadelphia Chapter of Professional Engineers, and a supporter of IEEE.
He enjoyed sailing, skiing and bicycling with his family. He regularly rode in the American Cancer Society Bikeathon from Philadelphia to the Jersey shore and actively supported American Cancer Society events.
Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral service at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 10 at Reed and Steinbach Funeral Home, 2335 Lower State Road, Doylestown, where the family will receive guests from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery, Ambler.
