Alan W. Ashmore, of Buckingham, passed away peacefully on November 29, 2023 at home surrounded by his family at the age of 93. Alan was a loving husband, father, grandfather and dear friend to many.
Born in Birmingham, England in 1930, much of his childhood took place during World War II. As the son of a professional footballer, he found a passion for sports and athletics — particularly cycling. He was enormously talented in the sport and rode his bike every chance he could get, all over the world. He won many medals during his semi-professional career.
In 1950, he met his soon-to-be life partner, Doreen (aka Rusty). Alan and his wife emigrated from England to Canada and eventually the United States in 1964 in search of new opportunities. They settled in the Philadelphia area, and lived out their many years together with friends and family nearby.
Those that had the pleasure to meet Alan know that he was a keen, witty, and determined man. As an international businessman, his work took him all over the world, and he had so many stories to tell from his travels. He lived a long and full life, with many memories and friends that he met from the cycling community and beyond.
Alan is survived by his children: Paul Ashmore (Holly) and Allison Landis (Mark); his loving grandchildren: Chris, Sarah (Davey), Mark, Lizzie (Ben) and Megan (David), as well as his great grandchildren Mickey, Charlie and Sage. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rusty and son, Peter.
Services and interment will be private.
