John R. Schug

John R. Schug of Doylestown died on July 23rd, survived by his beloved family — sons: Jonathan, Adam, and Noah; daughters-in-law, Seran, Monique and Joyce; six grandchildren: Jorin, Zachary, Ani, Ethan, Cole and Zoey; brother David and wife Carol; and siste,r Jane van Horne. His wife, Jeanne Marsh Schug (nee Krause), passed away in 2009.

Born in Easton Pennsylvania in 1929, Mr. Schug was the son of Russell and Ruth Schug (nee Jacoby).

He taught English in the Upper School at William Penn Charter School in Philadelphia from 1962 to 1994.

Remembered as an inspiring teacher, his students fondly referred to him as ‘the Toad’ or ‘Old Bean.’ He served as Chair of the English Department and received the Honorary 1689 Award.

John was the organist at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in the Lawncrest area of Philadelphia for 40 years and an avid reader, birdwatcher, photographer, and knitter.

The family held private services.
