Helen M. Norman

Helen M. Norman of Doylestown, formerly a longtime resident of Roslyn passed away Saturday, February 25 at NewSeasons at New Britain, 17 days shy of her 96th birthday.  She was the loving wife for 63 years of the late Joseph F. Norman, Jr., who passed in 2008.

Born in New Brunswick, N.J., Helen was the daughter of the late Joseph G. and Helen  M. Casey Heffernan.

Helen was a graduate of St. Peters High School, class of 1938 and went to business school. She first worked at J & J prior to working for her father’s food brokerage company.   After raising her seven children, Helen returned to work at ICC as a proofreader.   Her final task prior to retirement was proofreading the Oxford Dictionary.

She was an avid reader, loved her crossword puzzles and Jeopardy.

Helen is survived by her daughters:  Helen Shaffert of Doylestown and Anne Nigro, her husband, Jack, of Roslyn; her sons:   Mark Norman, his wife, Monica, of Plumsteadville; James Norman, his wife, Janine, of Ludlow, Vt. and John Norman, his wife, Judy, of Warminster, as well as 14 grandchildren: Jennifer Sames, Eric Shaffert, Mark Shaffert, Kathryn Leckman, John Geiger, Jr., Mary Anne Geiger, Jessica Adamski, Neil Norman, Jr., Julie Norman, Mark Norman, Jr., Michael Norman, Sarah Norman, John Norman, Jr. and Meghan Brauning, as well as 17 great-grandchildren and 3 more on the way.  She was predeceased in death by her sisters:  Mary Rutter and Rose Dennis; her sons: Joseph F. Norman, III and Neil Norman, her son-in-law, Richard Shaffert and her newborn twin great-granddaughters, Natalie and June Norman.

Relatives and friends are invited to her funeral Mass, 11 a.m., Saturday, March 4 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 235 East State Street, Doylestown, where the family will receive guests from 10 a.m., until the time of Mass.   Interment will follow Mass in St. John Neumann Cemetery, Chalfont.
